Our community theater is preparing a small production, and I am helping choose a wig for one of the characters. Most of the outfit is settled: a dark outer layer, a pale scarf, and very little room for other colorful accessories. The shortlist currently contains warm brown, cool brown, and subdued red; buying all three would stretch our small costume budget. I have been reading about personal palettes and came across this reference while looking for background on color analysis as a starting point for further reading. I would treat that as a starting point for questions, since a stage character does not have to follow everyday style advice. Our rehearsal space has different lighting from the performance area, so I do not trust a decision made in that room alone. Should we begin with a daylight comparison and then repeat it on stage, or do the costume and stage lights take priority? I would appreciate a practical comparison method that our volunteers can repeat, especially if the first choice needs changing after rehearsal.
